The Los Angeles Lakers finally made the big sensation they were looking for in free mode when they signed LeBron James. It turned out that the president of the basketball operations, Magic Johnson, had secretly met James at the very beginning of the introduction of the free ball and explained exactly what the team's plans were, giving him the idea to join the Lakers.
Magic has always been one of the most respected people in the NBA, especially by other players. He controls the room when he comes in and when he speaks, people listen. This was obviously the case for LeBron, and it also gave the Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss, a new validation in Johnson's tabulation to run the front office.
In a recent interview with Jim Hill, of CBS Sports, Buss explained why Magic was the perfect person to contact LeBron and sell him when signing with the Lakers:
"I knew Magic was the right person to contact LeBron and explain what the Lakers are. I mean, it's the quintessence of what it's like to be a Laker. And he is also from the same Midwestern region and moved to Los Angeles where he lives. So he really had everything he needed to talk to LeBron.
James and Johnson certainly have a lot in common both on the court and in the field. As Buss pointed out, the goalie of the Hall of Fame is a Midwestern person who has also moved to Los Angeles. James also has tremendous aspirations in the business world just as Johnson has already accomplished.
In the field, both players were unreal playmakers with an incredible view of the field that improved their teammates. It was therefore logical for LeBron to have an excellent connection with Magic. In the end, everything worked for all parties.
Jeanie made the right decision to call Magic and it paid off with LeBron, now purple and gold. The Lakers are already climbing to the top of the NBA.
