Man accused of arson after a fire in Greymouth

A 55-year-old man was charged with arson and burglary following a fire in Greymouth that ravaged an Indian restaurant and damaged other businesses.

The Indian restaurant Priya, Tainui Street, caught fire shortly before 4am. 17

The man was charged with burglary and arson at 84 Tainui Street

. He was scheduled to appear in Greymouth District Court on July 4th.

Greymouth Police thanked members of the public and victims for their help in the investigation.

Greymouth Fire Chief Lee Swinburn said firefighters came from Hokitika to help fight the fire
