Man released from grain elevator South Otago

A 45-year-old man was taken out of a grain silo near Balclutha after being trapped that morning.

A regional Otago rescue helicopter was sent shortly before noon after police received reports that the man had fallen into the silo, in the Hillend area, near the intersection Hillend and Coe Rds.

St John's spokesman, Gerard Campbell, said that the rescue helicopter carrying a paramedic had landed at 12:15 pm.

A police spokesman said that at approximately 12:30 pm, the man had gone out of the grain silo.

Mr. Campbell stated that the helicopter had left the scene at 12:33 pm and that he was going to Dunedin Hospital with the man on board, whose status was unknown
