Cape Town – Rory McIlroy does not seem to panic in his quest to win other major leagues
Speaking of the Irish Open this weekend McIlroy said he hoped to be vying in the remaining two majors this year after experiencing very different fortunes at the Masters and the US Open.
McIlroy approached the Masters in April, starting in the last group before fainting with a last 74 lap, while an opening round of 80 at Shinnecock Hills last month I missed the cup like the US Open.
It is now four years since his last major victory at the US PGA 2014.
"Nothing will change in my life whether I win a major or not," said McIlroy. "I would be disappointed if I did not do it but I do not panic, it does not keep me up at night."
"I was proud of myself for being part of the last group at the Masters." McIlroy, who is aiming for a second championship open to Carnoustie in two weeks
"The US Open was the only one in the world. US Open, I still have two chances to win this year. I hope I will argue.
"My goal this year was not to win majors – it was just to give me a chance and put me in a position to see how I got out of it." 19659002] "I did it to Augusta, I had the impression to have learned a little bit and to enter Carnoustie and [the US PGA at] Bellerive I can put myself in similar positions. He added that the Glashedy Links at Ballyliffin, the venue of this week's tournament, is a good place to start his preparation for Carnoustie.
" You know, that's a tough track here, " he said. "You can not put it in the bunkers of the field because they are really penal, so you have to touch the fairways, the green ones get stronger, it bounces, and it's going to be a very good test this week.
"This is not just a focus, obviously it's a big event in itself, but I think there are elements to this golf course that if you can hitting the projectiles here, you should be able to do it at Carnoustie as well. "
