Newshub presenter Mike McRoberts is about to brighten his life in 2019, when he enters the dance floor for the new season of Dancing with the Stars, along with Bachelor's laureate Matilda Rice.

The new season was announced as part of the Mediaworks 2019 range, which was revealed today.

"I've been dancing for as long as I can remember, but I've never had any formal training, so I'm really excited to learn to do it right," McRoberts said.

"Some of the best things I've done in my life have seemed like insurmountable challenges at the time: reporting on conflicts around the world or some of the greatest natural disasters in the world. running marathons and participating in multi-sport events, dancing with the Stars NZ seems to be one of those challenges – but perhaps with a slightly more glamorous wardrobe. "

Dai Henwood and Sharyn Casey will host the series of reality TV competitions.

McRoberts follows in the footsteps of his Newshub colleague, Samantha Hayes, who was crowned the winner of the season.

After his victory, Hayes said McRoberts had escaped the competition.

"Mike was pretty clear about the fact that he did not want to do it, but I think we should start a campaign and try to convince him," she said.

"He would be great, he would be so good."
