Nineteen-year "life of the party" killed in the Taranaki crash

A teenage driver was the victim of a fatal crash on National Highway 3 in Taranaki on Friday afternoon, confirmed his family.

Kyle William John Sullivan, nineteen years old known as Kyle Love, was on the way to work around 4 pm when he was involved in the collision of two cars on State Highway 3, in Brixton, North from New Plymouth.

He died on the scene.



Sullivan lived in Waitara with his cousin, Tyrese Aldridge, who described the teenager as "party life".

"He had just finished, he was coming home from work at four in the morning by Lepperton and he arrived just outside the entrance to Waitara," said Aldridge .

"He always made us laugh even when we were sad," said Aldridge. "It has been the life of the party since I remember."

He said the pair was the same age and had grown up together.

"We have been pretty close for years."

Sullivan had He moved to Taranaki from Wellington about five years ago for a "fresh start".

"He moved here to find a job and start a new life here in Taranaki."

The pair lived with Aldridge's mother, who has been Sullivan's first cousin, for three years.

"We do not have a big house but we piled it up and it left and made us proud."

The family still mourns the loss of Aldridge's brother, Cheyden, who committed suicide in November 2016.

"We are still raw, cruel."

Aldridge said the family had not set a date for Sullivan's funeral, but said it would be brought back to their Waitara home and the tangi would be in Taranaki.

Aldridge created a Givealittle page to help finance his cousin's farewell.

The only occupant of the other vehicle was transported to the base hospital of Taranaki.

Chief Constable Jason Koch said the police were looking for witnesses and encouraging "anyone who saw anything" to do so

Less than 48 hours later, the police were called to another collision on the same road.

A police spokesman said that they were called Sunday at 12:24 in Brixton, where two people were trapped and one of the vehicles on the roof.

The spokesman said that one person had been taken to the hospital and that the other had not been injured.
