According to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), domestic passenger traffic increased by 22.69% between January and May 2018, with stronger regional connectivity and the beginning of the tourist season. Passengers of domestic airlines in the first five months of 2018 amounted to $ 57.16 million out of $ 46.59 million in the corresponding period of 2017.

Load factor (PLF) – an indicator the number of seats occupied by a revenue passenger flight – also increased. On a monthly basis, it increased by 16.53% to 11.86 million in May against 10.17 million in April

The DGCA allocates the increase of the PLF for the month of May at the beginning of the tourist season .

Experts suggest the growth of the PLF C 'was because of the promotional plans distributed by the airlines, which have made air travel accessible to the rising middle class. It should be noted that the government is also strengthening regional connectivity and will continue to assign routes to carriers under the UDAN system.

According to DGCA data, SpiceJet continues to have the highest PLF with 94.5%, followed by the market leader, IndiGo, with 91%. Vistara ranks third with 85.7%, Air India and Jet Airways respectively 81.3% and 80.4%.
