Post Office, Telkom workers swear to fight until the end

JOHANNESBURG – Post and Telkom workers in three unions are on strike across the country.

Members of the Union of Communication Workers, the Customs Union and the Democratic Union of Posts and Communications declare that they will fight to the end.

The three unions say they have been fighting for a pay raise for more than three years

Workers went on a national strike, demanding a 12 percent wage increase from both entities

The first day of the strike also had a major impact on social grant recipients.

With the new payment distributor being the Post, the beneficiaries struggled to access their money. But the Communications Workers Union says the strike must continue.

A worker who has been working in the mail for more than 22 years is horrified by the working conditions

so badly that they do not have cleaners in the intersections, toilets are dirty and air conditioners do not work.

Unions wait until Monday to see what Telkom and the Post Office bring to the table before continuing a national strike.
