The royal family congratulates Prince Philip while Queen Elizabeth II's husband celebrates his 98th birthday in private.
In a tweet on Monday, the royal family wished Philip "a very good" birthday.
The British army plans to fire cannon shots in his honor. The army tweeted that she was "determined to make a good one".
Some of Philip's children and grandchildren have also issued tributes.

Philip has officially retired from public life although he is still sometimes seen with the Queen during official events. He ignored President Donald Trump's visit.
He still drives a horse-drawn carriage on private property from time to time, but no longer drives a car since a serious car accident in January.
He gave up his driver's license at the time.
