The Lion King remains to be seen
Once I had the honor of meeting Eoin Colfer – and he's such a cool guy. Unfortunately, I did not have a smartphone at the time (he, losing the opportunity to communicate with his fans, naturally looked sad – I'm sorry, 2006 Eoin). But believe me, it was great. I was a passionate fan of his Artemis Fowl books when I was younger, and so I'm out of the Disney adaptation trailer, directed by Kenneth Branagh.
While the teaser is still pretty indefinable in terms of plot, fans of the series of books (eight in total) will be happy to inform you. Artemis Fowl, a great kid and an infiltrated aficionado who solves all the problems of super father crime, which leads him into a secret and reclusive world of very advanced faeries. These creatures are brutal – negotiate magical powers against machine guns – and will kill at any time. Thus, the young Artemis is forced to fight to survive, keep the sharp mind and rely on a menagerie of faithful friends, while facing ruthless enemies.
Although I never imagined Artemis as a real 12 year old boy (in my head he was really a sweet 20 year old who excelled in life and was almost untouchable), I have to say that is logical and that I am really happy that it has materialized in this way. on the screen. Played by newcomer Ferdia Shaw, it seems – surprisingly – to have exceeded my expectations regarding the quality of the adaptation. There is also an impressive team, including Lara McDonnell, Tamara Smart, Judi Dench and Josh Gad, in the unforgettable role of Mulch Diggums, the cynical dwarf, with Nonso Anozie as a (really appropriate) incarnation of the loyal Butler.
With some sophisticated aerial framing and a parallel editing order (similar to Koyaanisqatsi, amirite?), the glance at the new production looks awesome. There is also a kind of edgy mood, Baz Luhrmann, with lit pieces and a melancholy score, which is quite unique for a fantasy film aimed at kids. I am somewhat relieved that this is in the hands of Disney: with their epic production budgets and their general ability to evoke the most impressive and dramatic event cinema, I sincerely believe that the source material will be done justice. Okay, I'm not quite convinced by Josh Gad's accent at the moment, but wait to find out what his the power is.
Artemis Fowl will be released in theaters on August 9, 2019 – still a little, but after years of anticipation, I think I can wait.
