Sam Cane has made tremendous progress in his long recovery from a horrible neck injury.

The All Blacks flanker posted a photo of himself running for the first time in three months on social media, giving fans new hope that he will recover in time for the Rugby World Cup. of September.

Cane was injured in October after a collision with Springbok forward François Louw in the 35th minute of the All Blacks win at Loftus Versfeld. This left him in a neck brace for months.

However, the 26-year-old said he was now relaxed and that he was about to recover.

"A good way to start the new year, the first time in a jog in three months," he wrote on Instagram.

"I enjoyed the posts asking how is the recovery and best wishes, and so on.

"I removed the neck protector just before Christmas and I now move on to some rehabilitation, strength and fitness work, which I like very much and which are also indispensable after grazing in a very good paddock in recent months. "

Cane needed surgery to repair a fracture at the bottom of the right side of the neck, forcing him to miss the end-of-year trip of the All Blacks to Japan and Europe.

He said last year that he was hoping for a return to the field during the Super Rugby season.
