The Crusaders' coach, Scott Robertson, has expressed interest in the position of head coach of the All Blacks, while speculation is focused on Steve Hansen's future.

Hansen revealed last week that he would make a decision regarding his future, whether it is to stay with the All Blacks beyond 2019 or to pass the witness, at the end of this year.

Robertson – who is out of contract with the Crusaders after the 2019 Super Rugby season – said he would closely monitor the situation.

"You watch everything every time that happens," Robertson said Tuesday.

"When you're a coach, you have to look at all the options, that's what I'm doing."

"The work of the All Blacks does not come so often that it does it, when that happens, you really have to take a look at it."

"The decision of Steve (Hansen) will play a very important role."

The head coach of Ireland, Joe Schmidt – who was tipped to replace Hansen – announced Monday night (NZT) that he will "finish training" after the Japan to "give priority to family commitments".

Schmidt's shocking decision leaves the door open for Robertson if Hansen decides to step down.
