At its press conference today at CES, Samsung has announced several products, including two beautiful notebooks, clearly intended for the opposite ends of the market. The Samsung Notebook 9 Pro is a premium Ultrabook and the Notebook Flash is a cost-effective device with interesting features for the price range.
Samsung Notebook 9 Pro
Samsung's latest addition to the Ultrabook range is the Notebook 9 Pro, featuring a diamond-cut aluminum chassis and thin 6.7mm frames surrounding the 13.3-inch 1920×1080 display. The Notebook 9 Pro is powered by the latest Whiskey Lake processors, including the Intel Core i7-8565U processor with a base frequency of 1.8 GHz and a boost frequency of 4.6 GHz. This is associated with Intel UHD 620 graphics.
The laptop is listed as 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a 256GB NVMe drive. This model is not yet available, so we do not know if there will be any SKUs that can be upgraded. level for this product too, but it is very likely that there will be some. The laptop has a battery of 55 Wh and Samsung evaluates its battery life to 14 hours. The wireless network is listed as 802.11ac 2×2 Giga, which means that it is probably the Intel 9265 network adapter. Thunderbolt 3 should be offered by a Premium Ultrabook and the Notebook Notebook 9 Pro by two TB3 ports, as well as by USB-C and microSD.
The laptop is thin and light, although it is not first class. With a thickness of 14 mm (0.55 inches) and a weight of 2.84 lbs, it should be easy to transport. The laptop also comes with an active pen, which is a nice feature. Prices are not announced yet, but the laptop will be available in early 2019.
Samsung Notebook Flash
Nowadays, buyers have the choice among some very good Ultrabooks, but those looking for a laptop at the other end of the price range have had a lot of trouble finding too much innovation. Samsung intervenes to help fill this gap with the Flash Notebook. This is a great notebook for this price segment and offers features not found in many other laptops in this class.
The exterior in charcoal is plastic but has a modern look, with a textured frame that should really help to cut down the stains. The 13.3-inch screen is also a 1920 x 1080 screen, which probably means it's an IPS and not the TN variants that we still see sometimes at this end of the price range. We contacted Samsung for clarification. Display frames are not as thin as some of the most upscale models, but again, that's not surprising for the price. There is even a fingerprint reader available.
Samsung is supplying flash memory with either the Intel Celeron N4000 processor, a Gemini Lake dual-core system-on-chip, with a frequency range of 1.1 to 2.6 GHz. For $ 50 more, buyers would be well served to upgrade to the Intel Pentium Silver N5000 option, which is still based at Gemini Lake and therefore at Atom, but with four cores and a range of 1.1 to 2.7 GHz .
Samsung offers the Flash Notebook with 64 GB eMMC, which is enough for light work, and microSD slot / UFS also if more space is required. The laptop only offers 4GB of RAM, but thanks to Gemini Lake, it will be the LPDDR4 and the battery of 39 Wh has a lifetime of up to 10 hours. There are two USB-C ports, a USB 3.0 Type-A and a USB 2.0 Type-A, as well as HDMI. The wireless technology is identical to that of the 9 Pro, which is rated 2×2 Giga. It is therefore likely that the Intel 9265.
The Flash Notebook will be available from January 15th. The N4000 model will be priced at $ 349.99 and the N5000 at $ 399.99.
