Call it the most unusual new feature to debut this year on a cruise ship.
Celebrity Edge, the new Celebrity Cruises ship unveiled this week in Florida, features a first 90-ton passenger platform with 90-ton passenger capacity serving various functions throughout the journey.
Nicknamed the Magic Carpet, this mandarin-colored structure can serve as an outdoor lounge or restaurant offering breathtaking views of the sea when placed on taller decks.

From the size of a tennis court, Magic Carpet is by far the most distinctive feature of the Edge, which will perform its first cruise with paying passengers Saturday at Port Everglades, in Fort Lauderdale. It is recognizable by kilometers.

Edge arrived at Port Everglades last week after a 15-night trip from the shipyard in France where he had been under construction for over a year. He is scheduled to make his first cruise with paying passengers on Saturday and be baptized in early December.
