This 1000 hp Mopar Hellephant V8 is a glorious old school excess

If you've always wanted to transfer a 1000 horsepower supercharged V8 to your daily driver, good news: Mopar's Hellephant Cashier is almost there. The latest craze in Fiat Chrysler Automobile's performance parts lineup is a surprisingly affordable way to get serious American muscle.

Mopar – named after the contraction of MOtor and PARTS – introduced the engine and HEMI kit "Hellephant" 426 with supercharged engine last year, to SEMA 2018. The company has proposed engine-mounted great power before, of course, but the Hellephant was always out.

For starters, 1,000 horses are the kind of figure that even modern supercars are far from reaching. The 950 lb-ft of torque of the supercharged V8 is legitimately amazing. In doing so, the 2017 Hellcrate engine, with its 707 horsepower, looks almost pedestrian.

To reach 1,000 horses, Mopar had work to do. For starters, the move is up, and there is now a 4-inch stroke and a 4.125-inch bore. The supercharger is based on the all-aluminum block and receives a set of high-efficiency rotors. Aluminum is not perhaps the material traditionally used for American muscle cars, but it has the advantage of keeping the Hellephant relatively light.

The body itself is delivered with the HEMI V8, with water pump, flywheel, front crankcase oil pan, supercharger with throttle body, fuel injectors and batteries . While giving power to your car can be an obsessive exercise, Mopar promises that the installation of the Hellephant can actually be quite simple. This is the courtesy of the Hellephant Motor Kit.

Kit includes powertrain control module (PCM), power distribution center, engine wiring harness, chassis harness, accelerator pedal, grounding jumper, oxygen sensors, charge air temperature sensors, fuel pump control module and CAN bus interface device. Mopar has designed it to adapt to street and off-road vehicles prior to 1976.

Preorders are open now and Hellephant is recording $ 29,995. This may seem like a lot – you can get a new charger all the less, but with a fraction of the power – but for the power levels we're talking about here, it's incredibly affordable. The engine kit costs an additional $ 2,265.

Now for the bad news. Mopar says the Hellephant 426 supercharged HEMI V8 engine is not legal on emissions vehicles or on vehicles registered for road use. This only means off-road days or off-road adventures: if you want something with stupid power that's legal on the street, you should probably "settle in" for a 797 hp Challenger Hellcat Redeye.
