What we know about the New Year's Special "Doctor Who"

Instead of the normal winter special, season 11 of Doctor Who will try something different- A special day of the year.

According to DoctorWhoTV, the official synopsis of the episode reads as follows:

At the beginning of the New Year, a terrifying plague flares over the centuries of Earth's history. When will Dr. Ryan, Graham and Yaz go home, will they be able to overcome the threat to Planet Earth?

We also have a glimpse of what Jodie Whittaker's 13th doctor will look like in this episode, with a lovely new scarf:

Written by Chris Chibnall, the episode is directed by Wayne Yip, who previously made two episodes during Peter Capaldi«Time as the twelfth doctor (2017 Lie of the earth and Empress of March) and two episodes of the spin-off Doctor Who 2016, Class (Detained and The metaphysical engine or what Quill did). The episode will feature Jodie Whittaker as a Doctor, Tosin Cole like Ryan, Bradley Walsh like Graham, and Mandip Gill like Yaz.

Instead of the usual Christmas special, there will be a marathon that will start at 12pm, Eastern Time and / or December 24th on the BBC and will lead to the actual Christmas Day. After that, it will be a celebratory marathon of all physicians starting with Peter Capaldi, followed by Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith, leading directly to the New Year special on January 1, 2019.
