World Cup protesters get 15 days in jail, bans on sporting events

MOSCOW (AP) – Two of the four demonstrators who broke into the field during the World Cup final in Moscow were sentenced to 15 days in prison.

Protesters, members of the collective Pussy Riot punk, ran ground Luzhniki stadium dressed as police in the second half of Sunday's game between France and Croatia. They called for the release of political prisoners and more open political competition.

A court on Monday sentenced Veronika Nikulshina and Olga Kuracheva after found them guilty of violating the Act on the Behavior of Spectators of Sporting Events. They have also been banned from attending sporting events for three years.

It was not immediately clear when the cases of the other two protesters would be decided.
