Next-generation Ford F-150 Raptor pickup truck to debut on February 3

Ever since Ram released his 702-horsepower TRX all-terrain pickup, he’s been sitting at the top of the fast truck hierarchy. Ford has held that spot for years with its F-150-based Raptor, but by comparison, its 450-horsepower EcoBoost V6 can’t stand up to the Ram’s Hellcat V8. The Blue Oval seeks to remedy that with the reveal of its next-gen Raptor, which we’ll officially see in its entirety on February 3, Ford confirmed.

Reports Car and driver claim two separate models are on the way: the normal but still hot Raptor and an even more capable Raptor R. The latter is believed to be getting a version of the supercharged 5.2-liter Predator V8, which currently calls the Mustang Shelby Home GT500. It produces 760hp in that spec, although it’s possible the supposed Raptor R could be out of tune slightly.

We’ve speculated in previous reports that the twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost could return with the 2021 Raptor, although later videos seemed to reveal a warm v8. With the news alleged that two different variants are part of Ford’s rollout plan, it certainly seems possible that we’re right on both counts. Either way, don’t expect Ford to back down from Ram’s challenge – you can bet they want to make those silly and dated Easter eggs.

Beyond the powertrain details, the 2021 Raptor is expected to feature coil spring suspension at all four corners. Like the Ram, it should therefore be suitable for even higher-speed off-roaders with displacement and stability at the forefront. We wouldn’t pass Ford to match the Ram TRX’s 35-inch tires, and on the supposed Raptor R, 37-inch off-roaders could make their appearance. It may be wishful thinking, but we will continue.

Either way, we’ll be on the lookout for more details ahead of the upcoming Super Truck debut on February 3rd. Log on to Ford’s social media at 11 a.m.ET to watch and click to The reader for full coverage.
