Top Chef, the reality cooking contest that turned chefs across the country into celebrities, will officially film its next season in Houston.
Rumors about the setting for the upcoming season in Houston circulated for weeks after the DeuxMoi gossip posted a tip hinting at plans to film the show in Space City on their Instagram account. This rumor was officially confirmed today in a press release, alongside the announcement of the show’s 19th season premiere on Bravo in 2022.
As fans may recall, two Houston bosses competed in the final season of Top chef, shot in Portland. Former Rosalie Chef Sasha Grumman was knocked out early from the competition, but Chef Dawn Burrell made it to the final. This was, of course, before the season was mired in controversy after allegations that Gabe Erales, the winner of season eighteen, had engaged in inappropriate conduct while running his Austin restaurant. In addition to these allegations, claims that Magical Elves, the production company that produces Bravo, knew about the misconduct.
As for the next season, Burrell will be making a comeback as “Top Chef All-Star,” who will “lend advice and expertise” to competitors among other previous competitors.
“I can’t think of a more perfect match than Top chef and the city of Houston. Both represent a celebration of cuisine, culture and innovation, ”Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said in a statement. “We pride ourselves on the diverse community and unique heritage that make our city such a popular culinary destination. ”
