They still have plenty of time to mess it up.
The Giants, meanwhile, have gone from the Lawrence draw to contenders for the horribly bad division of the NFC East, likely putting them out of the quarterfinal discussion in the 2021 NFL Draft … at least to put it mildly. moment.
After Week 11 – but before Monday night’s Rams-Buccaneers game – here’s a look at the future of the April NFL Draft:
1. New York Jets: QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson. There is no analysis to add here. You know it happens.
2. Jacksonville Jaguars: QB Justin Fields, Ohio State. It’s crazy to think that there was debate at some point about whether Gardner Minshew could be the Jaguars quarterback of the future. This obviously does not appear to be the case. Fields would be QB1 in most drafts and he would be the most talented quarterback Jacksonville may have ever brought.
3. Cincinnati Bengals: OT Penei Sewell, Oregon. Joe Burrow will come back from his ACL injury next year and the Bengals would be doing him a disservice if they didn’t improve the offensive line around him.
4. Dallas Cowboys: CB Patrick Surtain, Alabama. If the Cowboys are truly committed to Dak Prescott, they need to focus on improving their secondary with potential stopping corners like Surtain.
5. Washington Football Team: QB Zach Wilson, BYU. Alex Smith is a great story, but he’s not the quarterback of the future. Wilson or Trey Lance are the next best prospects in the table.
6. Los Angeles Chargers: CB Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech. The Chargers could jump into the offensive line here, but they would be smart to be the player many consider the best cornerback in the class.
7. New York Giants: EDGE Gregory Rousseau, Miami. The Giants should be squarely focused on three positions in this year’s draft: edge rusher, cornerback or wide receiver. Rousseau isn’t playing in 2020, but had 15.5 sacks last year and has Pro Bowl potential in a position where the Giants desperately need talent. High-end rushers are also extremely expensive in free agency, and more difficult to find than a wide receiver like Ja’Marr Chase, which shouldn’t be ruled out. Micah Parsons would also be hard to pass up.
8. Miami Dolphins (via Texans): LB Micah Parsons, Penn State. Linebackers aren’t usually as well-regarded in the modern NFL, but Parsons is good enough to overcome that and become a centerpiece of Brian Flores’ defense.
9. Atlanta Falcons: QB Trey Lance, State of North Dakota. Atlanta has been stuck with Matt Ryan for a while, but they should plan their lives after him.
10. Carolina Panthers: CB Shaun Wade, Ohio State. The Panthers have done a good job of taking on talent in the draft in recent years, but they still lack the cornerback.
11. New England Patriots: WR Ja’Marr Chase, LSU. That’s probably too high for the next wave of quarterbacks, and it’s crucial that whoever takes over at QB next year actually has some decent weapons on receiver. Chase is the best in the draft.
12. Detroit Lions: WR Jaylen Waddle, Alabama. Like the good old times. Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones will both be free agents this offseason.
13. Minnesota Vikings: OT Samuel Cosmi, Texas. Minnesota’s defense is brutal, but the offensive line could be their biggest weakness.
14. San Francisco 49ers: QB Kyle Trask, Florida. Jimmy Garoppolo clearly isn’t the guy, so Kyle Shanahan should have his chance to develop the next quarterback in the San Francisco franchise. Trask is 6-5, 240 and dominates for Florida this year (31 DT, 3 INT).
15. Denver Broncos: OT Liam Eichenberg, Notre-Dame. The Broncos have done a lot to improve their guns around Drew Lock, the next step is the offensive line.
16. Chicago Bears: QB Mac Jones, Alabama. Chicago really has no choice here. They desperately need a new quarterback. It might be Jones.
17. Miami Dolphins: WR Devonta Smith, Alabama. If Miami commits to Tua Tagovailoa as a quarterback, he might stand up to get upgraded weapons around him. Smith is a potential No. 1 WR in the NFL.
18. Baltimore Ravens: EDGE Kwity Paye, Michigan. The Ravens are still ahead of the curve by charging on the edge rushers, and they may have to replace Yannick Ngakoue.
19. Philadelphia Eagles: WR Rashod Bateman, Minnesota. The Eagles are stuck with Carson Wentz, and while they have other needs – cornerback, linebacker, offensive line – they should continue to swing to the wide receiver until they finally clinch gold. Bateman is worth it.
20. Arizona Cardinals: CB Jaycee Horn, South Carolina. Arizona is in desperate need of an upgrade against Patrick Peterson, who will be a free agent this offseason anyway.
21. Indianapolis Colts: EDGE Joseph Ossai, Texas. The Colts’ defense is one of the best in the NFL, and without a viable QB option on the board here, they should be looking for value at a position of need. You can never have too many passing throwers.
22. Jacksonville Jaguars (via Rams): OT Christian Darrisaw, Virginia Tech. The Jaguars need better protection for their new quarterback.
23. Las Vegas Raiders: LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Notre Dame. He’s a sporty and fun linebacker who would be an improvement over Jon Gruden’s current squad.
24. Cleveland Browns: WR Rondale Moore, Purdue. Odell Beckham could be dispatched and the group around Jarvis Landry is not exactly impressive. Moore can join Beckham and Landry or replace Beckham.
25. New York Jets (via Seahawks): CB Derion Kendrick, Clemson. The Jets could have the worst collection of cornerbacks in the NFL. It’s an easy choice.
26. Tennessee Titans: DT Jordan Davis, Georgia. The Titans got rid of Jurrell Casey and never adequately replaced him.
27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: DT Jay Tufele, USC. The Buccaneers might have to leave Ndamukong Suh and Tufele would fit in well.
28. Buffalo Bills: CB Eric Stokes, Georgia. A potential starter against Tre’Davious White.
29. Green Bay Packers: WR Terrace Marshall, USC. For god’s sake, the Packers better get some guns from Aaron Rodgers.
30. Kansas City Chiefs: WR Chris Olave, State of Ohio. Sammy Watkins is probably on his last legs with the Chiefs and this team is never shy about adding weapons for Patrick Mahomes.
31. Saints of New Orleans: LB Dylan Moses, Alabama. The Saints just traded for Kwon Alexander at linebacker, but that’s a stopgap. Moses can start on the first day.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers: OT Alex Leatherwood, Alabama. At some point, the Steelers will need to prepare a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger, but for now, a tackle upgrade would be enough.
