NFL has unusual Sunday schedule for Week 10 due to Masters: here’s how things will be different

The NFL schedule will look slightly different this week, and that’s because the league has decided to change some things due to the Masters being played this weekend as well.

The prestigious golf tournament, which is usually played in April, was postponed this weekend due to the COVID-19 pandemic. CBS has been the Masters broadcast partner for 64 years, and this year will be no different. With the final round of the tournament scheduled for Sunday, certain things had to be juggled for CBS to be able to broadcast both the Masters and the NFL.

So what will be different? Let’s take a quick look.

• No NFL games at 1 p.m. ET on CBS. For the first time since at least 1998, CBS will not be showing a single game in the early afternoon. With the Masters final round scheduled to air until 3 p.m. Sunday, that means there won’t be a spot to broadcast NFL games at 1 p.m. on CBS. All five games of the early afternoon window will air on Fox.
• More 4 p.m. games than 1 p.m. games. Other than Week 17, the NFL hardly ever has more 4 p.m. games on Sundays than 1 p.m. games, but it will happen this week. All three CBS games will start at 4:05 p.m., while the three late games on Fox will start at 4:25 p.m. That means there will be six games in the 4 p.m. window compared to just five in the 1 p.m. window. . Outside of a given Week 17, this is the first time in at least 10 years that there are more 4 p.m. games than 1 p.m. games during the regular season.
• Tony Romo and Jim Nantz will not be at an NFL game this week. Nantz will remain at Augusta National as CBS’s lead announcer at the Masters for the 33rd time, and since he can’t be two spots at once, he will spend his NFL Sunday calling the Masters final round on CBS. As for Romo, despite having a week off from football, you can almost guarantee that the avid golfer will have CBS all weekend long so he can watch both golf and football.

All of this means that you’ll definitely want to keep your TV tuned to CBS this weekend. Not only do we have the Masters on Saturday and Sunday, but we also have a strong NFL roster in late Sunday afternoon that includes the Bills 7-2 playing against the Cardinals 5-3.
