The NFL coaching carousel is on the move following decisions by Jacksonville and New York to switch from head coaches Doug Marrone and Adam Gase to the weekend out. With the Chargers joining the fray, the league has up to five vacant head coach positions and six vacant general manager positions. Research to fill these roles is expected to be very competitive and many have already seen a movement.

Below is an up-to-date overview of the status of each vacant position:

Atlanta Falcons (head coach and general manager)

Atlanta had seen enough after a Week 5 loss to rival Panthers. They had given the two ample opportunity to overcome a devastating loss to the Patriots in the Super Bowl, but the situation never improved and it was time for a clean slate. Head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff were fired after 19 seasons combined in Atlanta.

Carolina Panthers (general manager)

Carolina hired head coach Matt Rhule in the 2020 offseason to lead the team. Despite a sometimes encouraging start to the season, the Panthers fell to 5-11 on the year. The Lions fired head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn following a Thanksgiving loss in Week 12. Patricia, evidently, had lost control of the locker room and it was evident in the team’s record 13-29-1 over just under three years. Quinn had been with the organization since 2016.

Houston didn’t wait long to be able to head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien. After the team left 0-4, the property pulled on its direction. It was obvious that the team had backed down following some questionable staff decisions, including wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins’ trade.

Los Angeles Chargers (head coach)

Los Angeles made the decision to part ways with head coach Anthony Lynn on Monday. The Chargers didn’t want to be further behind the curve when it comes to buying time with the best prospects. Lynn had been with the organization for four seasons but failed to accomplish what the organization had envisioned.
