If you’re New York Jets general manager Joe Douglas and hear that a 25-year-old, three-time Pro Bowl quarterback is in the market, don’t you have to to know at least the amount of an exchange? would cost?
Fortunately for Douglas, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler was asked this question Wednesday on “Get Up”. And as you might expect, Deshaun Watson, who looks like a man who played his last game for the Houston Texans, won’t be cheap.
The floor would consist of a minimum of three first-round picks. The people I talk to in the league are unanimous on this. And not just three first-round picks, but one high pick, which is why the New York Jets and Miami dolphins are involved so often, as they have second and third picks in this draft, which the Texans could use to get their franchise quarterback. They would probably take other pieces too. You think of young ascendant players with rookie contracts with other teams. The Texans could be looking to acquire an emerging veteran with those three picks.
Watson is unhappy after being left out of the decision-making process when it came to the Texans hiring general manager Nick Caserio. Aside from the Jets and Dolphins, Fowler has identified three teams of sleepers in potential business negotiations with Watson.
Don’t laugh, but the Chicago BearI know there are people in this building who are very high on Deshaun Watson, even though they passed him away in 2017. GM Ryan pace might have a mulligan. They’ve never had a 4000-yard passer. They could finally change that.
Carolina Panthers, I hear, would gauge the interest, if it were actually in the market. It’s a team that hasn’t been completely sold Teddy Bridgewater. They kind of made it clear that in the open air they have a cap to do it, they could do it.
Washington football team is another, as mentioned, is going to be busy this offseason trying to get their future quarterback. They believe their window is now.
Watson has led the NFL with 4,823 passing yards this season, an incredible feat considering that a year ago, the Texans traded wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals.
