NFL rumors: 49ers bring back quarterback Josh Rosen for 2021 season

As the QB carousel continues, it looks like the 49ers liked what they saw from one of their young flaggers this season.

NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported on Sunday morning that the 49ers are bringing Josh Rosen back for next season. Rosen was an exclusive rights free agent, which means it was up to the 49ers to present him with a contract offer. It looks like they will.

The 49ers signed Rosen to a one-year contract on December 23, 2020. He hasn’t played any snaps in a game for the 49ers this season.

Rosen, 23, was the Arizona Cardinals’ 10th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He hasn’t played a game since October 13, 2019.

The UCLA product threw 11 touchdowns and was intercepted 14 times completing just 55.2% of his passes as a rookie. The Cardinals then traded him to the Miami Dolphins after his rookie year for a second-round pick and fifth-round pick in 2020. He played six games with the Dolphins, finishing with one touchdown and five interceptions.

While he didn’t have any playing time with the 49ers at the end of the season, they clearly liked what they saw enough to bring him back to the QB room for 2021.
