NFL Rumors: 49ers work on Wagner Linta's QB T.J before the 2019 NFL project

The 49ers' quarter room could have a new face after this month's NFL draft.

The San Francisco quarterback coach, Shane Day, reportedly led a training session with former Wagner signal caller, T.J. Linta on Wednesday, according to Tony Pauline of draftanalyst.com.

In 13 games as a graduate from FCS School last season, Linta completed 51.2% of his passes for 1,481 yards and 13 touchdowns. He only launched four interceptions in 217 attempts. Before two years at Brown, Linta completed 51.4 percent of his passes for 2131 yards, 13 touchdowns and 15 steals.

"Let's look at the movie plays, he's playing like a real quarterback," agent Joe Linta told The Associated Press last month. "He has the strength of the arms and the brain and the physicality, do not flinch as a result of being blown up in the pocket."

Before you ask: Yes, these Lintas are related. The agent of T.J. is his father.

If the 49ers recruited (or signed) Linta, he would not be the first quarter under head coach Kyle Shanahan, himself the son of a long-time NFL coach, to have links family with this sport. C.J. Beathard's grandfather, Bobby, was a long-time NFL leader. He was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame last summer.

Of course, the question of whether they would spend time together on the list remains open. As Patrick Holloway of the Nation Niners noted on Saturday, the 49ers only carried two QBs on their active player list and one on the training team during each of the first two. seasons of Shanahan. Beathard and Nick Mullens will be competing for the team's replacement this season, and none of them seem to be able to override the derogations, given their experience.

This could leave the 49ers looking for a quarter of development in the training team at Mullens. If Linta's training is an indication, the team is gearing up for this eventuality.
