This week’s payment will cover my NFL Draft 2021 Prospect Ranking and a series of questions on player evaluations and the various runners and runners in the college football season. But first, we start with the first event of the offseason – Reese’s Senior Bowl 2021.

NFL Rumors & Draft News: Tony Pauline’s Mailbag (1.20.21)

What prospects are you most excited to see at the Senior Bowl?

Mac Jones – I want to see how he fares outside of all this great talent he was surrounded by in Alabama.

Jamie Newman – needs a big week of practice to recover his draft stock.

Kenny Yeboah – I’ll watch to see how he does in the blocking drills. We all know he’s a great receiver.

Dillon Radunz and Spencer Brown – two great little school blockers with a lot going on. I can’t wait to watch Brown.

Malcolm Koonce – in my opinion, one of the draft’s most underrated rushers. I don’t expect him to be drafted until the final laps. Still, he’s a very good passer standing over the tackle as well as in a three-point position.

Ifeatu Melifonwu – I thought he was the most underrated defensive back in Syracuse and had the best of the SU trio.

I see you brought down Gregory Rousseau on your big board. Do you think Rousseau made a mistake by withdrawing from the 2020 season? Any rumors from the NFL that he could drop out of the first round?

He won’t fall from the first round, but Rousseau made a big mistake by not playing in 2020.

He’s a great avant-garde player and very athletic, but that’s where it starts and ends. He’s not a solid defender and needs a lot of work on his game. I felt he was overrated from the start.

Ohio State CB Shaun Wade made a mistake in the 2021 NFL Draft? Should he have gone back to school and maybe come back to the CB slot or maybe security (because he looked bad as a frontier CB in 2020)?

There are pros and cons to Wade’s decision. If he came back and got injured or didn’t improve, he’d be fucked up heading into the 2022 NFL Draft.

Wade’s inability to prove he’s nothing more than a nickel back will significantly hurt his draft stock. There were scouts who made him a third-round pick earlier in the year. I was convinced he would be able to take his game to the next level and show that he is the number one type of cornerback.

Obviously, I was wrong.

If Penei Sewell is available in pick three, do you think the Dolphins should take him despite taking Austin Jackson and Robert Hunt last year? Is this clearly an upgrade?

He’s an improvement over Austin Jackson, but I don’t think he’s enough to use the third pick in the draft on him. I also have my concerns about Sewell’s ability to play the right tackle.

Do you think there are any teams (or know of any NFL teams or rumors) that don’t have Penei Sewell as their top offensive lineman in the draft?

No team I’ve spoken to has another lineman, offensive or defensive, ranked ahead of Sewell.

Why do you think there were so many teams that refused to coach the Senior Bowl? Does the media overestimate the value of coaching at the annual event?

It’s more about travel around this time and the inability of teams to bring entire teams to Mobile.

This year, more than ever, it would be a great advantage to coach and get to know Senior Bowl players given all the uncertainty surrounding the practice leading up to this year’s draft.

Florida TE Kyle Pitts is now in your top 5 NFL Draft Prospects. Do you think he could be the first TE selected among the top 7 picks since 2006? Where do you rank him compared to other recent TE leads?

It will be very difficult for Pitts to make the top 10 this year. Looking at the teams with caps in this lineup, several of them need a tight side but they all have more pressing needs.

For comparison, I think Pitts is the best tight end in the draft since Vernon Davis, but I think Pitts is more complete than the former sixth pick in the draft.
