Over the past few days, the Colts and Bears have clearly emerged as the first two potential landing spots for Carson Wentz, but it looks like some other teams are at least watching.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter was on the John Kincade Show on 97.5 The Fanatic on Wednesday morning and was asked about interest from other teams.
“That’s what I can tell you,” Schefter said. “The Bears and Colts aren’t the only teams by far to have called Carson Wentz. Now, is there a team that is ready to step up? I don’t know the answer to that. I do not know. Is there a team waiting? I do not know. I know they’ve generated enough interest from enough teams.
“I would say that there are, that I could count, that I know, at least a couple of other teams that called. It doesn’t mean they are or not, but they called to see what it would take. And you wait and see if any of them will eventually step in or not. “
OK, so how is this real? It’s hard to know. Because, of course, the teams make calls, but that doesn’t really tell us what their level of interest in Wentz is. However, it seems possible that a team is watching the situation, ready to pounce if the price drops a bit.
The Colts and Bears are clearly at the top of the list at the moment, but NJ.com’s Mike Kaye reported that Wentz’s trading market has cooled some as the Eagles have remained firm on their asking price. This report also indicates that the Bears are increasingly impatient with the Eagles.
This brings us to that mailbag of the Chicago TribuneBrad Biggs, who was asked if the Bears were “all in” on Wentz. He says they aren’t because they keep their options open.
Biggs also wrote: “I have a feeling the Philadelphia Eagles have been working overtime to generate more interest in Wentz than there actually is.
Yeah, that seems likely. Howie Roseman is pretty good at creating a market and this is a perfect chance to do it again. On Friday and Saturday there seemed to be major momentum for the trade, but since then things appear to be slowing down considerably.
On Wednesday morning, Schefter backed up the ESPN weekend report that the Wentz Eagles trade could take place as early as this week.
“I still think it could be this week. That doesn’t mean it will be this week, ”he said. “But I still think the tendency is for him to be traded. I still believe he’s traded. We’ll see if it’s today or tomorrow or Friday or next week. But they will take care of him.
