The Dallas Cowboys are buying one of their former first-round picks.
The Cowboys are open to defense, Taco Charlton, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. Charlton will be inactive during the second week, reports Rapoport.
Charlton did not play in the first week against the Giants.
The Cowboys chose Charlton with the 28th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. In two action seasons, the 6-foot-6, 275-pound striker produced 46 tackles, 4 sacks and a forced fumble.
Although Charlton did not respect his project, he is only three years from his brilliant university career in Michigan. The Cowboys have recently paid off some of their best players. The franchise could therefore be willing to move from Charlton's first round salary to a gain for the future.
The Philadelphia Eagles, rivals of the NFC East Cowboys, are renowned for their research on all available players. The Eagles general manager, Howie Roseman, has repeatedly reiterated that he was neglecting no effort on the trade market.
While the Eagles openly praised their sleight of hand unit, the group was only allowed one week-long sack against the Washington Redskins. Charlton, who was perceived as a potential actor, could be interesting to negotiate in an environment where the price is low. Divisional trade is relatively rare, but the Eagles are no stranger to the NFC East pacts. The team transferred quarterback Donovan McNabb to the Redskins in 2010.
Charlton could be an option to compete behind Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett and Vinny Curry.
It should be noted that an exchange for Charlton is not a necessity, but that it could be a positive bet that Roseman might want to take advantage of. The Eagles attach importance to the line of defense and Charlton's potential could please the front-office.
