Talk on The Pat McAfee ShowFormer NFL general manager and Ocean City native Michael Lombardi said the Eagles were trying to create a market to secure a deal as quickly as possible.

“When you go to Japan, they usually don’t negotiate with you to make deals until you’re probably two hours away from leaving for the airport,” Lombardi said. “The reason is, it’s really the only time you’re serious when you have to go. Everything else is just posture. The Eagles do postures, right? They do postures.

The San Francisco 49ers, Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears have reportedly shown some interest in Wentz, with the Bears being the favorites to land him in a trade. The Eagles balked at a reported offer from the Colts. NFL analyst Ron Jaworski said the Colts offered two second-round picks for Wentz, but the Eagles were looking for a better deal.

Lombardi said another impetus to quickly get a deal was to avoid paying Wentz a $ 10 million bonus on the third day of the league year, which the team wouldn’t like to pay if she tried to exchange it. Lombardi said the listing bonus created a de facto deadline for trading.

“They tried to create this illusory market over there,” Lombardi said. “They brought out billboards with the world leader, and they did everything they could to create this market that went flat. Two weeks ago, it was supposed to be traded for a blockbuster, and that hasn’t happened. Most of the teams look around and say, “We’re not in it”. The Eagles, at one point, will realize that two days before this bonus expires, either closing this deal or it’s not worth paying $ 10 million.
