NFL rumors: Eagles’ Duce Staley sparks’ interest ‘in Bears coaching job

Could Duce Staley find a new home in Chicago with former colleague Matt Nagy?

It’s possible, according to Bears writer Adam Jahns of the Athletic in Chicago.

Jahns first tweeted on Friday afternoon that Staley and Nagy had previously talked about a job with the Bears coaching staff, but he deleted that tweet, saying, “I skipped the weapon, ”then tweeted that Nagy and Staley actually did not talk about the shelter, but added,“ There is interest there. ”

Jahns did not clarify what role Nagy sees for Staley, but Charles London, who has been the Bears running back coach since 2018, is expected to join Arthur Smith’s new staff with the Falcons as a coach quarters, so from now on the Bears. appear to have a vacancy for a running back coach.

Staley and Nagy were on staff for Andy Reid’s Eagles in 2011 and 2012, when they were both quality control coaches – Staley on special teams, Nagy on offense.

When Chip Kelly replaced Reid, Staley stayed with the Eagles and Nagy left with Reid for Kansas City, moving from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator when Doug Pederson replaced Kelly.

When Pederson replaced Kelly in 2016, he also retained Staley, and in 2018 Nagy replaced John Fox as the Bears’ head coach.

Staley spent 17 of his 19 years in the NFL with the Eagles. He ended his career in 2005 and 2006 with the Steelers.

There would be plenty of familiar faces in Chicago for Staley.

Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor was the Eagles quarterback coach in 2013, offensive line coach Juan Castillo was with the Eagles under Rhodes and Reid as tight ends coach in 1997, offensive line coach of 1998 to 2010 and defensive coordinator from 2011 to 2012 week bye. . QBs coach John DeFilippo coached Pederson’s QBs in 2016 and 2017. And linebackers coach Bill Shuey served in several roles under Reid from 2003 to 2010.

Staley, 45, was interviewed unsuccessfully for the Eagles head coach position in 2016 and 2021 and for the vacant offensive coordinator position in 2018 and 2020.

The Eagles have not officially announced that Nick Sirianni will replace Pederson, and it is not yet clear if Sirianni has any interest in keeping Staley on his staff or if there is a role at this point that Staley would consider staying for.
