NFL rumors: here is the base price Texans are asking for Deshaun Watson

The Detroit Lions acquired two first rounders as part of the trade program they received in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

The Houston Texans are also reportedly keen on a pair of first-round players in order to part ways with their franchise quarterback, as well as much more.

The NFL quarterback carousel took a turn on Saturday when the Los Angeles Rams paid a pretty steep price for Stafford. Many have wondered how the blockbuster could potentially impact the Deshaun Watson raffles, which have yet to really take shape. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle answered that question on Sunday while suggesting the bare minimum needed to trade for Watson.

The Rams-Lions trade will have nothing to do with a Watson trade if the Texans do. They will want at least 2, 2 twos and 2 young defensive starters. Watson, 25, under contract, super QB, team leader, loved by fans, pillar of the community. Start with the Jets.

You could say that the McClain floats package is a steal. Yes, that would be one of the richest comebacks in league history, but Watson is poised to be one of the top five quarterbacks over the next decade. You really can’t put a price on your quarterback situation to be permanently set in stone for the foreseeable future.

This is probably why Texans have “no interest” in trading Watson. But if the three-time Pro Bowl selection is determined to leave Houston, he’ll likely be able to make his way.
