Bill Belichick is nothing if not persevering.
While the 49ers still plan to have an “edgy” Jimmy Garoppolo starting next season, the New England Patriots are still trying to find a way to bring Garoppolo back to Foxboro.
“I’ve spoken to a bunch of people in the league about this, and enough people I trust have told me that the Patriots’ interest in Jimmy Garoppolo is constant,” Dianna Russini reported on Wednesday. ‘ESPN on “Get Up!” “It takes San Francisco to be more willing to make a deal and, of course, New England has to have the right amount of choice and money for Jimmy to bring him back. And that’s really what it’s going to be. to summarize.”
General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Monday they were not looking to trade Garoppolo but would if they were blown away by an offer. This line of thinking, of course, holds true for most gamers.
“We’re in a situation where when you bring in a rookie quarterback, for me it’s always better, especially in the squad you have, if you already have a veteran starting that you like and you’re up to it. comfortable to win. with, ”Shanahan said.
“This is usually the direction you want to go and not throw someone else into the fire until they’re completely ready. This is the situation we find ourselves in.
The 49ers acquired the No.3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft under a successful deal with the Miami Dolphins, moving to select their future franchise caller.
But the 49ers have a Super Bowl-ready roster for 2021, and they believe Garoppolo gives them the best chance of reaching their goal next season.
“It’s going to be hard to find a quarterback who gives us a better chance of winning than Jimmy right now, especially even a draft rookie,” said Shanahan. “So that’s what you’re looking at. Now, if someone wants something for that and it can improve your team in a lot of other ways, you listen to that, but it also depends on how good you feel for that rookie.

The Patriots have re-signed Cam Newton this offseason, but are hoping to bring in someone to compete with Newton for the starting position. Many thought the Patriots would target Alabama’s Mac Jones in the draft, but now it looks like Jones could be drafted into the top five, possibly even at No.3 by the 49ers.
Belichick knows Garoppolo and knows he can win games with the 29-year-old under center.
Chances are good that Garoppolo will return to Foxboro at some point, but it likely won’t be in 2021.
