NFL Rumors: Josh Gordon placed on the NFI Patriotes list; What it means | Patriots of New England

Receiver Josh Gordon was officially reinstated by the NFL on Sunday and placed on the New England Patriots' list. But he will not train right away.

Gordon has been placed on on the Patriots' non-football casualty list during his reinstatement, a source told ESPN's Field Yates. This is the same list that Julian Edelman has been busy all summer.

So what does it mean? Gordon may be dropped from the list at any time this summer, but he will not be able to train until it's done. If it is not removed from NFI by August 31, it will start the season on NFI Reserve and will only be activated after the 6th week.

The physical inability to execute a list works essentially the same way. Broad receivers Demaryius Thomas and Cameron Meredith are on the PUP list. Rookie offensive tackle Yodny Cajuste is also on the NFI list.

A player is placed under PUP when he is injured in an NFL activity. A player is placed on NFI if he is injured before entering the NFL or away from football. A player on NFI is not obliged to receive all of his base salary.

So, if the Patriots believe that Gordon can not help them right away, or if they want to watch him before he enters the field, they could keep him on NFI, opening another location, until the 7th week.
