On Thursday, the Ravens lost their third comeback to a late-season injury when former Rutgers star Gus Edwards fell with a torn ACL. He joins JK Dobbins (ACL tear) and Justice Hill (Achilles tear) on the sidelines.
Desperate times therefore call for desperate measures. ESPN reports that the Ravens “sign free running back Devonta Freeman to their training squad, agent Drew Rosenhaus (Adam) Schefter said Thursday. Freeman is expected to be promoted to the active roster.
Athletic’s Jeff Zrebeic reported Monday that Baltimore brought Freeman in for a workout.
Freeman, 29, a two-time Pro Bowl selection with the Atlanta Falcons, appeared in five games last season for the New York Giants, who struggled to replace Saquon Barkley after an ACL injury ending in season.

Freeman will join former New York Jets running backs Le’Veon Bell and Trenton Cannon in Baltimore.
Bell, 29, was selected three times to the Pro Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers struggling with the Jets in 2019 and 2020, before being released last October before moving closer to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Cannon, 27, was a sixth-round pick for the Jets in the 2018 NFL Draft. He played 20 games in two seasons with the Jets, recording 113 yards and one touchdown on 38 carries.
The Jets gave up Cannon ahead of the 2020 season and he was picked up by the Carolina Panthers. He went on to play 14 games for Carolina, with 40% of his action on special teams.
Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reports that the Ravens also expect to sign former New Orleans Saints running back Latavius Murray.
