SANTA CLARA – Without viable free market options to replace left tackle Joe Staley, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said rookie Justin Skule would get the green light for the moment.
The 49ers had two impressive wins on the East Coast, but came home with a big defeat. Staley will miss about six to eight weeks in case of fracture of the left fibula. Unfortunately for the 49ers, they have already lost the swing tackle Shon Coleman for the season due to an ankle injury.
Washington Pro Bowl striker Trent Williams is waiting for a new contract and has experience with the Shanahan system, but he is unlikely to end up in Santa Clara. The price of an exchange would be too high and Williams probably does not want to be a rent for a year.
While Shanahan said it was possible for the 49ers to solve some tack this week, the team is not ready for the moment. Shanahan thought Skule had done a good job after Staley left Sunday's game.

Skule had been working for four years in Vanderbilt and Shanahan thinks that the SEC's experience will be invaluable. Shanahan and the home office will always keep their noses on the floor looking for options, which, he said, is the standard procedure.

Shahanan explained that Skule is on the list for a reason, which is why they trust his ability to maintain the left side until Staley returns.

One option the team will not explore is Mike McGlinchey moving to the left. Shanahan does not believe that one side is more important than the other, with defensive ends rushing from both sides, with the exception of Von Miller.
Second-year lineman Daniel Brunskill is another option, which, according to Shanahan, will also be effective this week. Most likely, the training staff will adapt to the staff available and provide assistance on the left using narrow ends and / or a back as support.
