Isaiah Wynn looks set to go to the left tackle this season, but that does not seem to have stopped the New England Patriots from outperforming the position.
The patriots offered a first round choice 2020 against the Washington Redskins in exchange for Pro Bowl tackle Trent Williams, but have been postponed, according to reports released Thursday by Kevin Sheehan of The Team 980 and JP Findlay of NBC Sports Washington.
According to reports, the Redskins wanted more for Williams, who is currently waiting for a new contract. It is unclear when this commercial offer was made. Earlier reports indicated that the Patriots were not supposed to sue this 31-year-old man.
Williams is one of the best left-wing forwards in the NFL. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl in the last seven seasons. This position was a major question mark for the Patriots after Trent Brown's decision to sign with the Oakland Raiders for a big gain in free agency.
Wynn's progress, however, provided reasons for optimism. The Patriots slowed down with their first pick in 2018 after missing all of his rookie season with a torn Achilles, but Wynn returned to the game Saturday against the Tennessee Titans.
Wynn is expected to resume his race on the left when the Patriots host the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night in the third week of the pre-season. Dan Skipper is currently the main candidate for the backup tackle position, with Cole Croston also in the mix.
UPDATE (12:09 ET): A source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that the report that the Redskins refused a first-round pick for Williams was "unequivocally false".
