NFL Week 3 Superlatives – The Athletic

Move over, LeBron James. Make room for Matthew Stafford and Justin Herbert on the city’s sporting Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Stafford and the Rams took down Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. Herbert and the Chargers returned to topple Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. That’s why they took home Athletic’s Most Outstanding NFL Player honors for Week 3.

Stafford didn’t want to relive his time with the Lions or compare the level of talent around him now with the Rams to that of his former employer after his new team just defeated the defending Super Bowl champions Buccaneers in the third week.

There is no doubt, however, how badly one player (Stafford) affected the Rams’ condition following the team’s 34-24 victory over the Bucs.

Statistically speaking, Stafford has produced stats like this before in the Detroit era: 27 for 38 passes, 343 yards, four touchdowns (including a 75-yard touchdown connection with DeSean Jackson), no interceptions, 134.0 smugglers.
