The NHL has informed the NHL Players Association of its decision not to reopen the collective bargaining agreement in effect on Friday.
The news arrives two days before the league's deadline for exiting the current CBA in 2020. The NHLPA has until September 15 to withdraw.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman made a statement on this issue.
"Given the current state of the game and its activities, the NHL believes that it is essential to continue to build on the momentum created by our players and will not exercise its option to reopen the game.
