NEW YORK AND SEATTLE – Today, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), a company of Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN), announced that it has entered into an agreement with the National Hockey League (NHL) to become the cloud official, artificial NHL® Intelligence and Machine Learning Infrastructure Provider.

By leveraging the breadth and depth of AWS services, the NHL will be able to automate video processing and cloud content delivery and leverage its Player and Player Tracking (PPT) system, which works on the AWS cloud infrastructure, to better capture game details for its fans, teams and media partners. The NHL will also build an enterprise video platform on AWS to consolidate video, data and related applications into a central repository that will facilitate the search and retrieval of archival video footage, give broadcasters instant access to NHL content for syndication and licensing, and will facilitate the creation and delivery of new in-game analytics, predictions and video clips to enhance mobile, online and streaming experiences.

NHL to work with Amazon’s Machine Learning Solutions Lab to apply AWS’s broad portfolio of machine learning services to game videos and official NHL data, including data from the new tracking system NHL Pucks and Players (PPT); and NHL hockey information and tracking. Real-Time System Statistics (HITS) – to develop and share advanced game analytics and metrics that take fans deeper into the game. Additionally, the NHL intends to use AWS Elemental Media Services to develop and manage a cloud-based HD and 4K video content delivery system that will provide a comprehensive view of the game to officials, coaches, players and fans of the NHL. Powered by AWS, the system will encode, process, store and transmit game footage from a variety of new camera angles to provide continuous video feeds that capture games and events outside of the field of view of the cameras. traditional broadcast.
