Ligue 1 match interrupted after a fight between players and supporters (video below): A French league match between Nice and Marseille was suspended on Sunday after local supporters threw projectiles and invaded the pitch after a opposition player rejected a bottle after being hit.

With around 15 minutes remaining, former West Ham United midfielder and current Marseille midfielder Dimitri Payet was hit in the back by a bottle thrown from an area with Nice supporters.

Supporters had previously been warned against throwing objects by the stadium announcer.

Payet returned the bottle to the crowd, prompting a significant number of Nice supporters to rush onto the pitch.
The referee stopped the game with Nice winning 1-0 at the time and sent the players to the locker room. The match was due to resume almost an hour after the incident.
UPDATE: Ligue 1 have a big decision to make after the match has finally not resumed, Marseille refusing to participate after the fight (above video). There will undoubtedly be a lot of controversy over this incident in the coming days …
