CLEVELAND, Ohio – Browns running back Nick Chubb has described allegations he was paid to return to Georgia for his final year as “fake news.”

Chubb, who doesn’t tweet often, took to Twitter on Monday to challenge Valdosta, Ga. High school football coach Rush Propst’s accusation that he received $ 180,000 over three installments of $ 60,000 to return to the Bulldogs in 2017 instead of making the NFL Draft. .

“If I needed money, I would have become pro #fakenews” Chubb tweeted.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Chip Towers, the University of Georgia is aware of the allegations by Propst, who claims Georgia and Alabama are paying players hundreds of thousands of dollars to play for them.

The school received a secretly taped conversation between Propst and Michael ‘Nub’ Nelson, former manager of the Valdosta Touchdown club, Towers reported. In the recording, Propst says Georgia and Alabama pay recruits from $ 90,000 to $ 100,000 to sign with them. He also said Chubb received $ 180,000 in three installments of $ 60,000 each to play his senior season.

“I don’t think they’re in trouble because of who said that [Probst]Nelson told AJC. “This man’s credibility sucks and they’ll be doing it in no time.” I’d be surprised if the NCAA spent more than a minute on it.

According to the AJC, Propst is under investigation by Valdosta for allegations by Nelson that he paid students to play high school football for him there.

Chubb ran for 1,345 yards as a senior and helped lead the Bulldogs to the National Championship game, where they lost 26-23 in overtime to Alabama. In the semifinals, Chubb and Georgia beat Baker Mayfield and the Oklahoma Sooners, 54-48 in double overtime. Mayfield was drafted No.1 overall by the Browns in 2018, and Chubb was drafted in the second round, No.35 overall.

Georgia did not comment on the allegations.
