Nick Diaz and his brother, Nate Diaz, know a lot about adversity.
Diaz vs. Robbie Lawler serves as a marquee fight on UFC 266’s Pay-Per-View (PPV) Main Card: “Volkanovsky vs. Ortega”, which takes place this weekend (Saturday, September 25, 2021) inside T- Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, streaming online via ESPN +. Ahead of the clash, Diaz talks about his upbringing in a fight preview titled “Crossing Paths Again” from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) YouTube channel.
“I come from a very harsh city. My brother engaged in gang brawls and brawls on the streets. I was stabbed. But after being roughed up when I was a kid, I had a really strong mentality. So when I went there I just did what I knew, ”Diaz says in the video. “I was just trying to survive and fight. Martial arts are a kind of do or die. You have to really suck and be the ball there. “
Diaz and Lawler will bring things back 17 years after their first fight. The Stockton native won his first fight by KO (KO) at 1:31 of the second round (watch the full fight here), rising to 9-2 as a professional mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. Lawler fell to 8-2 as a result of the result; however, both men were destined for greater things.
Diaz has amassed huge success thanks to his anti-establishment attitude. A victory over BJ Penn was followed by fights against Carlos Condit and Georges St-Pierre for the UFC Interim Welterweight and UFC Welterweight titles, respectively. He then fought Anderson Silva.
Lawler would go to fight in Strikeforce before returning to the UFC and winning the UFC welterweight title with a split decision victory over Johnny Hendricks. He successfully defended the crown against Rory McDonald and Condit.
