Alabama has yet to formalize the hiring of Bill O’Brien, but head coach Nick Saban appears to be a deal done.
O’Brien is expected to resume his coaching position at Tuscaloosa as the new offensive coordinator of the national champions, replacing Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian left to become a head coach at the University of Texas.
The Texans fired O’Brien as general manager and head coach in October after a 0-4 start. O’Brien, hired as head coach prior to the 2014 season, was 52-48 in Houston.
“I think he made a really good job in houston when he was the head coach, “Saban told Sports Radio 610’s Brandon Kyle Scott in Houston.” I think when he became general manager maybe things didn’t go exactly the way he did. would have liked, trying to have both roles. Having been a head coach in this league, I know how difficult it is to do those two things, possibly impossible.
“So based on all of the work up to [becoming G.M.]I think he is an exceptional coach and a very good person. He has a great family and I think he will do a great job with our players here. I’ve always tried to have the best possible knowledge and experience for our players and their development, and I certainly think he can contribute in a very positive way.
