Alabama will look to win their 20th straight game on Saturday night when they meet Texas A&M at Kyle Field.
The 7pm CT kickoff on CBS will also be another encounter between Nick Saban and former assistant Jimbo Fisher, with Saban having a chance to extend his record on former assistants to 25-0.
Saban held his weekly radio show, “Hey Coach Show with Nick Saban,” Thursday night. Here are the highlights:
FOURTH SEGMENT
– Asked about the qualities of the players they recruit, Saban said they want players to be the best versions of themselves. Saban said he told rookies he didn’t want them to “sign up for Alabama,” but rather engage in all the things they need to do in Alabama to be successful. . Saban said they are “paying the guys back” for playing by “creating value for them and their future.”
– In his final word, Saban said: “I think this is a critical game for us” as it is an opportunity to show that they can play on the road in the SEC and maintain the intensity for 60 minutes. He said there would be opportunities for “other players” to play due to injuries.
– When asked if he was talking to Jimbo Fisher, Saban replied, “I don’t argue with anyone. I really don’t. I don’t talk to people during the week. I mean, Miss Terry if I’m lucky. I don’t see anyone except our staff. We’re working. ”He said his days were planned out and“ I don’t have a lot of time to say I’m going to call my boyfriend and see what he’s up to. ”Saban said he enjoyed talking to his friends. and that he wished he could do more, but he didn’t have the time. “Nothing personal, he said.” And I don’t think most of them do a good job and work hard, they don’t either. … They look at their phones and say what does this guy want? And most of the people who know you somehow know that you are focusing on what you are doing, so they do not call you.

THIRD SEGMENT
– Saban said Bryce Young has “always been very strong.” He has a great character and is a good communicator, although calm – he doesn’t speak unless spoken to, Saban said, calling out the young intellectual. He said you can teach players to do anything, but there are things on the pitch that require instincts, which Young has. Young is also rarely frustrated, although Saban noted that Young was frustrated with his late interception against Ole Miss. SECOND SEGMENT
– Asked about his favorite concession for a football game, Saban asked, “When was the last time I went to a concession stand?” Saban said he’s never been a hatchback in his life. “Do you have any idea where I am during the game?” Saban said he had heard that about 40% of match day employees at Bryant-Denny Stadium did not show up for work. “I apologize to all of our fans out there,” Saban said. “For whatever reason [they weren’t there], God bless them somehow.
– When asked if there is someone he would like to meet that he hasn’t met, Saban replied that you usually don’t think about it until someone is do not want anymore. Saban said a “stupid example” is that he always wanted to see Elvis Presley when he was young but “that time never came”. Saban added, “You are a point in time between the past and the future.” He spoke about Fuller Goldsmith’s death this week and said he was on the radio show a few weeks ago. Goldsmith was in Terry Saban’s luxury box for Saturday’s game.
– Asked what he looks for in hiring coordinators, Saban said he wanted someone with a good character although “sometimes it can be hard to judge”. He doesn’t believe that someone can take a leadership position if they don’t communicate well. He also wants to know how the coordinator will fit in with the rest of the staff. Sometimes a candidate can be a good coach and a good person, but their personality can cause “conflict” in the building in the midst of long hours.
– “Each week you have the opportunity to clarify who exactly you are,” Saban says of what is great about the sport.
FIRST SEGMENT
– Nick Saban, asked by AL.com media guest Lauren Sisler about how he’s doing: “I think we’re okay.” He said Alabama play well when motivated, but seem to struggle to maintain the intensity, whether in games or practice. He told players this week that they need to have a “signal” when they lose intensity and “then you have to get up.” He said snipers are trained to stay awake for 24 hours before they need to perform their tasks and they need to have a “signal” to recover.
– Saban on Texas A&M: “I think they’re a dangerous team. I think it’s a bit of a trap game for us. He said Alabama played an “emotional” game against Ole Miss and Texas A&M had just suffered two losses. Saban added that Aggies QB Zach Calzada is trying to get up to speed after injury to starter Haynes King, but the rest of the squad are as good as anyone in the country.

–Saban said fans did a “wonderful job” affecting Ole Miss, noting the three saves in the fourth down. He specifically said that “the students did a great job” when Ole Miss was at that end of the pitch.
–Saban asks PeeWee, “the offensive line substitute coach,” if he has been “hard this week” based on how the offensive line has played against Ole Miss. Saban noted that Ole Miss’s defensive structure invited them to lead the Ball.
–Saban thinks all Texas A&M defensive linemen will play in the NFL, and they’re disruptive. “It’s going to be a huge challenge for the offensive line. He added that Alabama will face a pass rush but have the opportunity to make plays on the field. “We’ll see how we play this week,” Saban said of the offensive line.
– Saban said the defensive plan was “much better” this season against Ole Miss. He said the defense got caught with 12 men on the pitch, but officials missed a replacement by Ole Miss. Saban said he had learned a “valuable lesson” that if officials don’t see the substitution they will not hold the game and Alabama will have to stop their own substitution to avoid a penalty. “It was probably worth the lesson we learned,” he said.
