Call of Duty 2021 is officially on the horizon, and here’s everything we know about the upcoming game’s release date, who’s developing it, leaks, and more.
As always, a new year means a new Call of Duty game. Call of Duty 2021’s upcoming release is as mysterious as it is exciting, and we’re sure to get another year of Warzone updates combined with a whole new setting (or return) for the franchise.
With the resounding success of Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Black Ops Cold War, the 2021 iteration of Call of Duty is sure to be a huge release.
Let’s break down everything we currently know.
CoD 2021 release date
Call of Duty traditionally outings in november. However, Modern Warfare and Black Ops 4 both released in October. Ideally, Call of Duty targets the first Friday of every November, as we’ve seen for CoD WW2 and Infinite Warfare releases.
The Friday tradition started with Black Ops 3, where previous games saw releases on the first Tuesday in November. Below you can read some of the latest versions of Call of Duty.

Activision officially confirmed during its call to investors on February 4 that a new Call of Duty game is coming this year and that the 2021 title will run parallel to Warzone.
We might expect CoD 2021 to release again on the first Friday in November. Black Ops Cold War released on the second Friday in November, which could very well be due to Treyarch’s below-normal development time for the title.
Overall, we certainly expect the new game to be out on the first or second Friday in November 2021.
Title CoD 2021
There is a rumor from ModernWarzone that the working title for Call of Duty 2021 is’Vanguard of World War II“. This title adds credibility to the potential of this world war game, as Vanguard is the most important part of an advancing army or naval force.
While ModernWarzone believes this title may be changed in the future, Eurogamer “understands that Activision’s current plan is to stick with the Vanguard subtitle for the final release.”
There hasn’t been an official word from Activision yet and plans could certainly change in the future.
CoD 2021 setting and period
A rumor suggests that the 2021 game will be set again during WWII, and Eurogamer has reported that to be true.
ModernWarzone claimed that CoD: WWII Vanguard would be an alternate version of WWII history in the 1950s. However, Eurogamer sources disputed this information, claiming it would be a “framework” traditional World War II ”.
We should have more teasers for the game in the coming months. Leaks, as always, will be difficult to decipher, with many members of the community posting bogus leaks for every new CoD game.
What engine will CoD 2021 run on?
One of the main talking points when reviewing Black Ops Cold War and Warzone is the engine. Infinity Ward brought a whole new, more realistic engine with Modern Warfare and Warzone, while Cold War used an updated version of the Black Ops 3 engine with a more classic CoD feel.
With players switching between Cold War and Warzone often, the engine change can seem shocking, so fans are eager to find out which CoD 2021 engine will run on.
VGC report claims 2021 Call of Duty will be activated The engine of Modern Warfare. This means the game will likely have the same feel as MW and Warzone and perform the same, with the same realism and performance improvements.
Which studio is developing CoD 2021?
The main current development studios for Call of Duty are Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch. Normally these studios operate on 3 year development cycles. However, Sledgehammer Games did not have the main niche for their latest release slated for 2020, which instead became Treyarch’s Black Ops Cold War.
Due to this, Sledgehammer Games are the most likely candidates to develop the 2021 Call of Duty title. Eurogamer also believes that SHG will develop the WWII Vanguard, reporting that their “sources have indicated that this is indeed true.”
Will CoD 2021 integrate with Warzone?
Black Ops Cold War integrated into Warzone when its first season launched, bringing together operators, weapons, and even zombies.
