Nicolas Cage found himself moonstruck again, revealing that he married his girlfriend, Riko Shibata, last month.

“It’s true, and we’re very happy,” the 57-year-old actor said in a statement to People magazine.

The couple were hitched up to an “intimate little wedding” at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas on February 16, a day chosen to honor Cage’s late father’s birthday. The couple exchanged Shinto and Catholic vows and the ceremony included haiku poems as well as poetry by Walt Whitman.

Cage and Shibata, 26, met in Shiga, Japan over a year ago, according to Vanity Fair. They were pictured in February 2020 – with Shibata at the time identified only as a ‘mystery woman’ – visiting the pyramid-shaped Cage mausoleum built in New Orleans to ultimately bury her corpse.

Cage had announced the couple in August when they appeared on his brother Marc’s radio show “The Cope” Coppola, USA Today reported.

“She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and haven’t seen her for six months,” said Cage, who lives in Las Vegas. “We’re really happy together and we’re really excited to be spending this time together, so I finally said, ‘Look, I want to marry you,’ and we got engaged on FaceTime.

The proposal included a black diamond engagement ring that Cage sent via FedEx.

It is the fifth time that the actor of “Wild at Heart” marries. He was previously married to Patricia Arquette, Lisa Marie Presley, Alice Kim and Erica Koike. His last marriage, to Koike, wasn’t quite gone in 60 seconds, but it only lasted four days before Cage asked for an annulment. He said he was too drunk to understand what was going on at the time of the wedding.

Cage and Kim, who were married from 2004 to 2016, remain friends and she attended her wedding in Shibata. Cage and Kim’s 15-year-old son Kal-El – named after Superman’s birth name – were also in attendance.
