Nighttime storms cause flooding; more dangerous heat, risk of thunderstorms today

DETROITGood Thursday morning, Metro Detroit!

Flood advisories have been issued for some counties in the Metro Detroit area due to overnight showers.

The relentless heat was mitigated by thunderstorms on Wednesday, which caused damage to our region.

Sunrise today was 6:38 a.m.

Our air will remain very heavy because of the recent rains. Times start in the 60’s up to 70 as you leave this morning.

Will we see another heat advisory today? You might want to think about packing some extra water and getting ready to relax, especially if you are working outside.

We still have a really good 90 ° F shot on Thursday, and the humidity will be feeling like triple-digit heat. This dangerous heat is almost over, but don’t let your guard down: listen to your body and watch your neighbors.

The sky will become cloudy after the morning showers, then become partly sunny in the early afternoon. Expect more scorching sun and heat in the mid to late afternoon.

An upper level disturbance that hangs around the Great Lakes for days will bring a few heat-induced showers again later Thursday afternoon. We are only in one marginal risk category (lowest risk) for severe storms at that time.

Thursday sunset is at 8:38 p.m.

Chances of shower on Friday, but otherwise good weekend

A cold front late Thursday and early Friday will maintain the chance of Friday showers. Temperatures on Friday will be in the low to mid-80s with a touch of humidity. The cooler air coming in will lower our temperatures in the late afternoon and evening on Friday.

We’ll be feeling a noticeable change in the air this weekend, and it’s a good one. Make big plans for this coming weekend, because we will have wall-to-wall sunshine with lows of nearly 60 ° F and highs of nearly 80 ° F on Saturdays and Sundays. And it’s the cozy 80s without too much humidity involved.

It will slowly warm up early next week and return to the low in the mid-1980s. It will be dry on Monday and much of Tuesday. Computer model data hints at some residual moisture from Tropical Storm Fred reaching Metro Detroit in the middle of next week. No promises, but we hope for decent flood-free soaking showers. We need it, believe it or not.
