Colin Kaepernick had a W on Sunday – and he has the Emmy to prove it !!
The Nike "Dream Crazy" ad featuring the NFL's quarterback was nominated for an Emmy of Best Creation in 2019 for Best Advertising … facing fierce competition from Netflix and Apple's commercials.
But, Colin's place is victorious … and we are told that Colin and The Swoosh are PUMPS. Our sources tell us that Kap is particularly proud of his involvement in the creative process.
As we reported previously, the announcement was produced by the agency Wieden + Kennedy – a company based in Portland and located near the Nike headquarters. They produced the famous Terry Crews Old Spice and "Dilly Dilly" commercials from Bud Lite.
The spot fell in September and Kap was telling inspiring messages on how to overcome obstacles … while using other large athletes to showcase his point of view.
"Do not see yourself wearing [Odell Beckham’s] Jersey. Picture OBJ carries yours, "says Kap.
He also referred Shaquem Griffin, James Lebron and Serena Williams …
"And if you're a Compton girl, do not just become a tennis player, become the greatest athlete of all time, yeah, it's more like that."
Nike caught a flack for advertising because people challenged Colin's phrase: "Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything."
Critics felt that Colin had not really "sacrificed everything" since he still had millions in the bank – while soldiers who died in combat had actually sacrificed everything for the country.
People have burned their shoes and boycotted Nike – but that does not seem to affect the company. The stock plunged in the wake of the announcement, but then rebounded.
