(Reuters) – Apple Inc. (AAPL.O) is in the process of finalizing the certification of the advanced displays of the Chinese display manufacturer BOE Technology Group Co Ltd (000725.SZ) for its iPhones, which is trying to reduce the use of Samsung Electronics, Nikkei said Wednesday.

Apple will decide by the end of the year to choose BOE as a provider of organic light shields (OLEDs), the Japanese business daily reported, citing sources.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The iPhone maker "aggressively tests" BOE's flexible OLED, highlighting the possibility that Apple may, for the first time, procure this advanced display technology in China, according to the report. (S.nikkei.com/2Z8Axf9)
