The crackdown on piracy by Nintendo continues: its US subsidiary has filed a lawsuit against the owner of a website, RomUniverse, on September 10. Pirated games on this website would show "counterfeit copies of Nintendo trademarks" and violate the copyright of the actual works.
According to Polygon, the website offers subscriptions priced at $ 30 per year, which allows users to download an "unlimited amount" of ROMs at a higher speed than non-members. Nintendo claims that this ROM site is one of the most visited and "notorious" online sites, offering nearly 300,000 downloads of Switch games and "more than 500,000" 3DS downloads. The company is now claiming $ 150,000 in damages for each copyright infringement and up to $ 2 million USD for each trademark infringement.
This follows the news yesterday that the UK High Court had resorted to an injunction to block access to websites helping visitors to hack Switch games.
